TOUR N. 29: POMPEII - SORRENTO - POSITANO
Our driver will be waiting for you below at the gangway of your ship at 8 am. This itinerary has been designed for cruisers who would like to spend most of the time at their disposal for shopping and walking around the towns and villages instead of touring the winding and crowded Amalfi Coast by car.
You will visit Sorrento, a quiet, enjoyable and charming place famous for its mild climate, the perfume of its gardens the panoramic terraces, lovely open air markets where you can find cameos and fine articles of inlaid wood. The homes are surrounded by groves of olive, lemon and orange trees and the views are beautiful.
After the visit to Sorrento we continue along the Amalfi coast, one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. The scenery is characterised by mighty cliffs that drop in the sea, rich with bays and coves, winding and colourful.
We can stop for photographs over the enchanting town of Positano with its famous high-fashion shops.
Positano develops vertically. The homes, one on top of the other, are characterised by arched porticos that give onto the sea, and are painted in pastel colours.
The narrow streets, lined with boutiques, run downhill between the houses flowing onto a wide beach. From here we can admire a beautiful view of the sea, as well as the climbing town up the mountainside. The small beaches of Positano are simply charming and we can easily arrive there on foot.
If you like, you can enjoy a traditional and delicious Italian meal at a restaurant with stunning panoramic views.
After lunch you will be driven to ancient Pompeii which is considered the only archaeological site with a true and complete image of an ancient Roman city.
Pompeii, with four fifths of its urban area already excavated, is the most famous and evocative archaeological site in the world. The eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD buried the city in a 6-7 meter thick layer of ash and cinder.
It is a journey into the past: one captures the feeling of life in ancient times, public, and, above all, private.
